It was an exciting experience to edit this supplementary issue of Journal of Cleft Lip Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies. This is a special issue of the journal to commemorate the 13th International Cleft Congress – Cleft 2017 organized in the picturesque setting of historical Mamallapuram, Chennai. This was an amazing venue for this once in 4 years global extravaganza organized by a dedicated team under the leadership of Dr. Jyotsna Murthy.

This issue brings you some of the important original research papers presented during this 4 days congress. The scientific committee and the editorial board of the journal extended the invitation to all the presenters during the congress. I am extremely happy and grateful to the authors for enthusiastically submitting their valuable research papers to the journal at reasonably short notice. All the submissions have been subjected to intense peer review process and accepted only when found fit for publication. Some of the submissions which did not adhered to the journal guidelines and/or were not found appropriate for publication were rejected. The editorial board remains grateful to the authors for reposing faith in the journal.

This special issue comes with many achievements; first, it is special because this is the record of the special event for eternity. Second, the report of the task forces of the Confederation is being published for the wide dissemination of the activities. Moreover third, this issue has a special place for the journal as this has the submission from all over the world which will give instant international recognition to the journal. Bringing out the supplementary issue in short period of 4 years of its existence is an enviable achievement for the journal.

The response to our invitation was overwhelming. We received 53 articles for the special issue. Due to which the new submissions for the year crossed the century. Finally, more than 35 peer-reviewed original articles from highly experienced international authors from all over the world were accepted. This has tremendously improved the visibility of the journal. I am sure this milestone will give special recognition to the journal and pave the way for indexing with various agencies.

It was a pleasure reviewing and editing this supplementary issue. I have learnt a lot while reviewing these articles. I personally remain indebted to the authors, reviewers, organizers of Cleft 2017 and the publisher for extraordinary support throughout the process of publication.

A nation is advanced in proportion to education and intelligence spread among the masses.” - Swamy Vivekananda
